EXPLAINING THE TITLE

Back in the 1990s, I lived in midtown Manhattan. I used to pass a hotel every day that had a wonderfully whimsical architectural feature: the poles which held up a canopy protruded from the mouth of an elephant, while the creature's trunk wrapped around the pole. There is so much wonderful decorative and fine art that surrounds us. We just have to notice these elephants...
